Harriet Miers nominated by President Bush for Supreme Court Justice
Monday, October 3, 2005 at 08:25AM In a move that stunned conservative supporters across the country President Bush nominated White House counsel, Harriet Meirs to replace retiring justice Sanda Day O'Connor.
Meirs has a reputation as a fiercely loyal Bush ally in her position as White House counsel, and is originally from the Presidents home state of Texas. However, she has never sat on the bench in any capacity, is a blank slate as to her opinions, and conservative groups nationally have expressed dismay at her selection.
When a major conservative group calls her " the single least capable nominee since the Abe Fortas nomination" you know Bush has essentially given his base a back hand, and the damage inflicted by his weakening poll numbers caused him to shrink from selecting a more substantial conservative such as Luttigg or Edith Jones.
We will discuss all this on Civil Action Radio this week from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm EST this Friday.
