More FDA warnings on pain killers.
Friday, July 15, 2005 at 02:27PM Important alert on the painkiller fentanyl. CNN has an update on the FDA alert and it's implications.
This again points to the issue of big pharmacy and the FDA's issuing
and monitoring of drugs in the US market. There are a lot of drugs
rushed to market or not studied for the long term, and yesterdays
asthma drug alerts, coupled with others this week brings warnings on
over 9 separate drugs in just the last week.
Of course, there is always going to be an issue between the desire to
get ground breaking drugs to market as quickly as possible, and taking
enough time to test them for long term side effects. However as the
number of suspect or confirmed drugs that are showing up with
unexpected side affects raises concerns, and i'm sure there will be a
fresh inquiry into what if any thing was known before these drugs were
approved.
