Employment law and blogging.
Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 06:38AM Interesting little summary in the Sunday NY Times on the perils of blogging at and about your job.
I've always wondered about this, and what rights employees have in the
blogging arena regarding commentary about their jobs, bosses,
coworkers, vendors, etc. A lot, if not most people blogg anonymously or
under a pseudonym to avoid some of the issues, but as the article
points out, several people make finding out the identity of bloggers a
casual past time, and the consequences are your job.
As more companies, large and small, enter the blogging world, much as
we have done, you have to make a conscious decision as to off close to
the edge you are going to go, and how much blandness your audience can
stand. Fortunately we work with lawyers, happen to be lawyers, so we
are pretty careful about issues such as libel, slander and false
reporting. You don't have to be needlessly vicious to be readable, and
you don't have to totally bland yourself out to be safe.
At least I hope you don't.
