The American Jury Project.

Today's Arizona Republic has an article on the American Jury Project and how the proposed changes closely mirror reforms in place here in AZ.

A lot of the changes seem to be common sense, and as a resident of Arizona I've seen how they work first hand, both in the court room as an expert, but also as a member of a jury last year. The key element as I read this article is the ability to take notes and ask questions of the judge during the flow of the trial. The complexity of a lot of modern litigation, whether it is scientific, legal, financial or mechanical just argues for the right of jury members to take notes and retain a coherent thought pattern in order to make a fair and reasoned decision.

Interesting reading and it will be part of the proposals the ABA makes next week for adoption.
