Impact of Katrina on the Legal System.
Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 05:05PM In my conversations with my friends and associates all along and through the gulf coast it has quickly become evident that the legal system in Louisiana has quite possibly been set back several years by the devasation of this storm.
An excellent synopsis from www.ProfessorBainbridge.com is available for your reading. Be sure to check it out.
In essence the legal system is going to grind to a halt as courts, law offices, support firms, records firms, internet providers, computers, etc, are quite literally washed away and ruin, with a necessity to rebuild and restart cases. I can't imagine the task ahead but in the words of a friend of mine from Mobile, Alabama, which also took a devastating hit, " the damage is massive, wide spread and on a scale people can't imagine, and it will be months, if not years, before many firms are able to restart their practices at their previous level."
Our support and prayers goes out to all of the trial lawyers, their families, staff and clients during this difficult time.
