Traumatized residents in Ashland Mass. find out there fears may be justified.

This week in the Boston Globe columnist Michael Levenson touched upon a story that seems all to familiar to residents living within a close proximity to chemical plants.

Fond childhood memories of growing up in Ashland are being tainted by the announcement of a startling study put out by the Department of Public Health. Stating that for many residents that have come in contact with the water behind the Nyanza Inc. chemical and dye plant put them at a much greater risk of developing cancer. Although the plant has been there for almost ninety years there hadn't been any concerns over glowing and florescent colored water until the eighties when over the span of a few years five different residents of Ashland were diagnosed with a very rare form of soft tissue cancer.

Now to some, playing in multi colored water and mud may not seem like the wisest or most kosher activity to partake in. None the less watching the story of this town unfold in the sad and dramatic way that these chemical cases almost always inevitably do should keep us all on our toes. The Globe has excellent coverage so go to the live link and scan the various stories they have on this so far.
