The draw of the law is waning at schools nationwide, even as a U.S. senator raises questions about the accuracy of some law school placement reports.

The Philadelphia-based Law School Admission Council reports applications for the fall 2011 class are down 11.6 percent across the United States, with about 90 percent of law schools reporting. Last year, 87,900 students applied for admission to law schools across the country. As of March 18, only 69,089 prospective students had applied.

Kyle McEntee, a Vanderbilt University law student set to graduate this spring, is executive director of Law School Transparency, an organization trying to collect accurate information from law schools across the country.

"When a prospective (student) has limited, quality information, and there are a ton of stories saying not to go to law school, some prospectives will react by looking for a career elsewhere or deferring their application cycle," McEntee said.
